A prominent bakery in Seattle, Washington was looking for a better way to package and merchandise its delicious assortment of macarons.
The Challenge
This local bakery was looking for a new supplier who could not only improve production quality, but also create a 2-piece thermoformed tray package that could function as either a tray or a tray with a lid. They also wanted the tray made in a clear, food-grade plastic with cavities designed to their exact dimensions.
The Solution
Knowing that the bakery wanted to have the package function as either a tray or a thermoformed container, the Indepak design team set out to create a package that accomplished both goals. Using a food grade PET material, the team developed a tray with male and female connectors on each side. This innovative design allowed the tray to function solely as a tray, but could be easily turned into a container by simply rotating it and marrying up the male and female connectors.
The Result
Indepak's solution - which allow the top and bottom to be used interchangeably - provided the bakery with two unique packages from one SKU. The innovative design not only provided a cost savings but provided the bakery with more flexibilty in its merchandising options.
