ResourcesCustom Thermoformed Trays - Indepak's Capabilities

At Indepak, we can design just about any type of custom thermoformed trays you might need. Whether you need materials handling trays, displays, food trays or trays to fit into other types of packaging, we can create all of this and much more. Here’s a quick look at our trays and capabilities.

Benefits of Plastic Thermoformed Trays

Versatility

We can design any type of tray you might need with as many cavities you might need or just one cavity. We also can design custom lids for your trays, if needed.

Affordability

Thermoform plastics are some of the most affordable packaging and tray materials available, and we can come up with a solution that meets your needs and budget.

Sustainability

Virtually all of the materials we use at Indepak are recyclable. We also can design trays with recycled content or create your trays using bioplastics.

Industries We Serve

Specialty Foods

We have been working with the specialty foods industry for years, and we are experts at designing thermoformed trays for food packaging. We use many materials approved for food contact, as well as materials that can handle extremes in temperature. Your trays can move from freezer to microwave to fridge without compromising structural integrity.

Medical/Pharmaceutical

We can design custom thermoformed trays to hold medical equipment or medical supplies. We produce low-particulate medical packaging intended for non-sterile or downstream sterilization applications. Our detailed record keeping ensures traceability down to the box level.

Electronics

If you need custom plastic trays for your static sensitive products, we can help. We are a long-time leader in thermoformed electronics packaging, bringing the knowledge, materials and techniques to ensure that your static-sensitive products are protected. We work with a variety of materials, from dissipative to conductive, to provide our electronics customers with the best tray and packaging options.

Industrial

We can provide you with internal and business-to-business tote trays, including those used in automation applications. We also understand your need for trays with anti-static properties and can produce industrial packaging with tight tolerances so that they work flawlessly in your process.

Agriculture

Whether you need seed trays or trays with many cavities to hold small plants or containers to hold larger plants, we can provide you with any type of tray or agricultural packaging you might need.

Retailers

We can design trays with custom cavities to hold just about anything. For instance, you might need a tray to hold various toy parts or you might need a tray to hold several different sized bottles of perfume or skincare items. No matter what you produce, we can design retail packaging that fits each component of your product perfectly.

Types Of Materials We Use

PET

Polyethylene terephthalate is approved for food contact, and it can be an ideal option for some types of food trays. For instance, if you need trays to hold cookies or crackers or perhaps deli trays with custom cavities to hold fruit or vegetables, this might be a great option. Of course, PET can be used to make trays for other industries, as well, including many types of retail products. PET is one of the easiest materials to recycle and the material is also readily available with recycled post-consumer content. Bio-based PET is also available and made from renewable resources.

HDPE

High-density polyethylene also can be used for many types of food products, as well as a myriad of retail and personal care products. HDPE is chemical-resistant and moisture-resistant, as well as being highly durable and impact resistant.

PP

Polypropylene is yet another plastic material that is approved for food contact and can be an excellent option for pharmaceutical or medical packaging. When it comes to thermoformed trays for food, PP can be a great option if you produce microwavable foods as it can withstand temperature changes. PP also can be used to make trays for many other products, as well.

HIPS

High-Impact Polystyrene might be an option for some types of thermoformed trays. HIPS offers a high level of impact resistance and it can be glossy and colorful, as well as an option if you need anti-static packaging. HIPS can be used for some food packaging as well as medical packaging.

PVC

Polyvinyl chloride is a highly affordable and durable type of thermoform plastic. PVC can be used for many industries, including the medical and specialty foods industries, but also for use in making thermoform trays for many retail products. PVC can be sealed through heat and radio frequency (RF).

PETG

Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol is a thermoplastic polyester that provide significant chemical resistance, durability, and excellent formability for manufacturing. PETG can be easily vacuumed and pressure-formed. It is most often used in medical applications due to its ability to be both gamma and Ethylene Oxide (ETO) sterilized. It is also able to be sealed by both heat and RF (radio frequency) to provide a tamper proof barrier.

ABS

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene is extremely durable and highly resistant to stains and scratches. Trays made out of ABS are dishwasher-safe, but not recommended for microwave use. Still, they can be a good option for restaurant trays as well as internal business trays, agricultural trays and more.

Sustainable Options

We can design custom thermoformed trays using bioplastics that are derived from sustainable resources. We can also create packaging that incorporates recycled content. All of the materials we use at Indepak are recyclable, so we definitely can come up with an eco-friendly solution for your packaging project.
